Position Summary

Are you interested in new media, social activities and television? Weather Group’s Local Now is developing the next generation of multimedia and cross-platform entertainment. The team at Local Now values software which exemplifies simplicity of design, maintainability and foundational robustness.

As a QA Analyst, you are expected think critically about the level of testing required (e.g. none, manual, automated) that makes sense for each change being worked on, in each stage of that change's lifecycle (e.g. design, development, QA, release). The result of testing should be valuable feedback to engineers and product managers concerning the change's likelihood of defectiveness and confidence level of correctness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, document and maintain test plans and test cases for both existing and new product functionality.
  • Execution of both manual and automated testing based on test plans/test cases.
  • Preparing test plans for major releases.
  • Preparing test traceability metrics, defect trends and test execution trends.
  • Create and analyze product issues, document appropriately using online bug tracking application.
  • Work with Developers, product managers, and designers to isolate, clarify and document both functional and technical issues.
  • Act as a conduit or liaison for information flow on product issues.
  • Communicate status on issues or roadblocks, as well as accomplishments and plans.
  • Maintain expert level proficiency in the use of products

Education, Experience, Certification Requirements

  • BS degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of product quality assurance and testing experience to include but not limited to: testing on a variety of operating systems, including: Microsoft based products (NT, 2000, XP), Red Hat Linux distributions 7.x and above
  • Design, testing and maintaining scalable, high availability solutions through design, implementation, and load testing phases, with experience recognizing potential scalability bottlenecks and recommending solutions.
  • Design and maintaining and testing a service oriented architecture with multiple internal and external customers

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to do light scripting or SQL queries
  • Able to present difficult concepts clearly and concisely to both a technical and non-technical audience
  • Customer focused
  • Excellent Written/Verbal communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills to work with all levels of customers.
  • Knowledge in QA process and testing methodologies
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Strong technical skills and experience testing on a variety of platforms including web-based products, MS SQL Server, MySQL, .NET 4.0 WCF windows services, IIS 7.5, Silverlight, Adobe Flash, iOS and Droid
