Position Summary

The Director Live Storytelling will oversee daily content development for Live Programming, as well as oversee the execution of the content throughout all shows within Live Programming. He/she will ensure overall execution of news mission and implement the strategic mission and tactical operations of the newsroom while ensuring the highest levels of journalistic, legal, TV production and promotion standards are maintained.  He/she will supervise Executive Producers and editorial teams. This position will report directly to the head of Live Programming.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop editorial direction and long term strategy for creation and execution of live programming
  • Work closely with other department heads and managers to help promote and market the network, drive sales using content and improve ratings for live and feature programming
  • Interview, evaluate, hire and promote employees and/or applicants and perform periodic performance reviews and subsequent merit increases, bonuses and disciplinary action, when necessary
  • Provide regular feedback and coaching to employees or effectively recommend such actions for talent, producers, directors and the news management team
  • Evaluates workflow efficiencies ensuring editorial resources and expectations are clearly defined and met
  • Enforces policies and procedures, including deadlines and style

Education, Experience, Certification Requirements

  • B.S. Journalism, or equivalent knowledge, required
  • Minimum of ten years electronic news media experience with at least five years in television news as Asst. News Director, Managing Editor or Executive Producer

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven track record for compelling television journalism, enterprise reporting, contemporary presentation and proficiency in multi-platform news delivery required
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, weekends & holidays
  • Champion of change, demonstrating a consistent, positive can-do attitude
  • Comfortable with fast-paced, results-oriented environment
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, weekdays and holidays
