Position Summary

If you’re looking for a mundane 9a-5p job, this isn’t it!  We are looking for a Miami based creative, passionate and energetic storyteller who knows their community inside and out located..  The Multimedia Journalist is responsible for helping develop and execute the production/editing standards for Local Now.  She/he will incorporate a distinctive approach to writing, shooting, editing and producing content while adhering to defined editorial and journalistic standards.  The emphasis will be developing a compelling visual voice and style that’s easily scalable across news and feature segments.

This is a freelance role in the Miami, FL area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop story ideas, write, shoot and edit news/feature stories
  • Use graphics and new forms of media, such as webcam interviews and viewer-contributed pictures
  • Deliver news in an accurate manner while still making the events exciting to hear about
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Work well under pressure, within a team environment and have the ability to think outside-the-box  
  • Able to apply critical and strategic thinking, handle stress, be quick-thinking and accurate
  • Work with producers, associate producers and management to execute cross-platform coverage of major news coverage, breaking events and feature segments.
  • Must have a knowledge of social media and understand what drives users to engage with Local Now’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Education, Experience, Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, TV/Web production or related subject preferred
  • Preferred 3 years’ experience producing digital content at a major news network or online news publication
  • Must have expert level experience with all aspects of digital video production
  • Proven knowledge of online production and multimedia storytelling, online publishing systems and technologies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of online production and multimedia storytelling, and working knowledge of online publishing systems and technologies
  • Be familiar with wardrobe, makeup and speech delivery best practices
  • Possess communication skills and interviewing experience
  • Understand how to film, edit and add graphics to stories
  • Demonstrate leadership and employee development skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills and work well under deadline pressure
  • Works well in collaborative environment
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy production equipment on a regular basis

Hours

The Weather Channel operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Hours worked by The Weather Channel associates will vary according to job responsibility and scheduling demands of each department.
