Position Summary

The Producer/Editor will be responsible for generating compelling content for the digital media platform, Pattern. This position works with a Producer and Design counterparts to edit video, audio and graphics into a strong finished product that tells a story and engages a social audience. The role is to create a core story and iterate that story over several social platforms. Hyper social engagement and understanding the digital space and its audience is required.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate new story ideas from recent, relevant developments in weather science, climate news, technology, and culture
  • Produce stories ideas for articles, slideshows, programming and other content that entices and emotionally appeals to a social audience.
  • Use non-linear editing software to produce narrative videos with content produced by members of the Pattern editorial team within the applicable assigned content area (storm coverage and science/weather explainers)
  • Produce videos by critically evaluating and determining which pitched stories are most relevant to users and most likely to drive increased traffic

Education, Experience, Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Fine Arts or related field
  • 4 years of non-linear editing experience in a commercial post-production or broadcast environment
  • Experience in short form story telling for digital release
  • Experience in live production environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A deep understanding of how to produce traffic by way of social media and what drives audience engagement
  • Ability to direct work and lead teams through content development
  • Ability to visualize abstract concepts and develop them into story ideas
  • High comfort level with various content management systems
  • Informed interest in science and weather media and content
  • Must be knowledgeable about the latest editing techniques and visual trends
  • Must have ability to create and tell a story through editing techniques
  • Professionally skilled with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects)
  • Skilled with VO recording, sound design, sound mixing, and color correction
  • Strong knowledge of current events, including pop culture, science, and technology news
  • Understanding of copyright and facility in securing the rights to images, music, and videos
