Position Summary

Under general direction, perform operational and departmental support functions for the Broadcast Production and Operations group. In addition, operate prompter for live shows as scheduled.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate prompter and perform other production duties as needed for live shows.  Specific responsibilities noted below.  
  • Act as central command coordination for the Broadcast Production & Operations department.
  • Provide operational support for television production and operations-related departments within The Weather Channel.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting monthly accruals and partnering with Accounting, as assigned, on departmental budgetary planning projects.
  • Execute purchasing and procurement requests.
  • Code department invoices and obtain appropriate approval for processing, following up as necessary.
  • Order and maintain office and production supplies inventory.
  • Work with Directors and production teams as needed to support operational / logistical requirements for productions and projects.
  • Provide project-related support to the business as required, such as collaborating with other groups, both internally and externally, to expedite the execution of projects.
  • Works as a part of a team to continually develop and improve processes used to support Production projects.
  • Perform purchasing, picking up and delivering of materials as requested to support projects.
  • Act as secondary contact for check In / Out process for field equipment
  • For project support, will be expected to communicate across departments and arrange work to be done based on agreed upon timelines within projects.
  • Special projects as assigned to support Broadcast Production and Operations

 

Prompter Responsibilities:

  • Load scripts into prompter system via newsroom system.
  • Scroll through the script, via a controller, as the anchors read the scripts on air.
  • Must be able to adapt to anchors ad-libbing and not directly following the scripts.
  • Must be able to follow show changes, listening to Director and Producer, and position the script in the proper place in the teleprompter.
  • May be expected to print scripts and distribute them to anchors, Producers or other show personnel.
  • Ability to read and follow show rundowns.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Will be required to sit in a chair from 2 – 4 hours at a time.
  • Will be required to type on a keyboard for a period of 2 – 3 hours.
  • Will be required to look at a computer monitor and other monitors for a period of 2 – 3 hours. Some monitors could be as close as 2 ft and as far as 12 ft away.
  • May be required to lift lighting fixtures, move scenery or other equipment. The weight may range from 20-100 lbs.

Education, Experience, Certification Requirements

  • Three years successful business experience in production and/or operational/team support experience with demonstrated achievements and responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Journalism, Communications or Business preferred) or its equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have professional demeanor in person and excellent phone skills as this role will work with vendors, contractors and other external associates.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to identify issues, as well as willing and able to take initiatives to solve them.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently.
  • Willingness to work alternate schedules required as this is a 24 / 7 work environment.
  • Must have unquestionably high ethical standards and professionalism.
  • Customer-focused and team player mentality required.
  • Must be flexible and have an adaptable attitude in an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to get along well with others, willing and able to deal with a diverse cultural & customer base in numerous types of challenging situations.
  • Must have good team skills including listening, initiative, and follow through.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple tasks and to react to spontaneous changes in priorities.
  • Willing to work long extended hours when necessary.
  • Ability to interface between creative, technical and senior level professionals.
  • Highly proficient with MS Office applications, Google applications and other software used by Production Operations teams.

Hours
